The Drum Creative Awards are an annual awards ceremony which celebrate and showcase work from around the world. This year, in partnership with Creative Equals, they have reintroduced the category of ‘Creative Women of the Year’ in order to push equality boundaries within the creative industry.

Chair of the judges, Caitlin Ryan, group executive creative director of Cheil Worldwide, was blown away by the candidates, as was the entire panel. "I feel I am pretty clued up on female creative talent out there and I was scribbling down names and feeling exhausted just reading the extra initiatives and accomplishments of these women – on top of all being brilliant creatives."

We are delighted that Becky McOwen-Banks, one of Creative Directors, has been nominated. In the nomination article, Becky was asked to weigh in on how diversity will grow the industry and what actually keeps them here in the first place.

“I love this industry and just don’t think there is another like it. Being paid to solve problems large and small, for clients here and around the world, with the added potential for rosé – I love it. It’s an industry I was absorbed by since teenage years, one that I’ve trained for and one I work bloody hard to create answers that make a difference. Why should I skulk off? That’s not my style. The industry has to change and will change – be it unbelievably slowly. I stay because we are finally seeing women being celebrated and I feel I have a duty to show girls of all ages that this fabulous, crazy, fulfilling industry is absolutely for them.”

Results are announced on November 30th. Watch this space.
